Terms of Service
Last update: 5 August 2026
Welcome to Handsome. These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your use of handsomemakers.com and the related services. By using the Service you accept these Terms in full.
1. Scope of the service
Handsome is a digital marketplace that connects end users ("Customers") with independent Makers ("Makers") offering workshops and crafts experiences in Italy. Handsome acts as a technological intermediary; workshops are delivered directly by the Maker, who is solely responsible.
2. Economic model
Zero commission for Makers. The deposit paid by the Customer (€10 for group workshops, €25 for private sessions) belongs entirely to the Maker: Handsome retains no percentage on the workshop price.
The only amount in Handsome's favour is the Booking guarantee of €0.50 per confirmed booking. It is included in the round amount the Customer pays at checkout (e.g. €10 = €9.50 deposit + €0.50 guarantee) and covers the platform service and the no-show protection that holds the spot. The guarantee is not a commission on the workshop price.
Payment flow (Stripe Connect — Direct Charge). The Customer pays the round amount directly to the Maker's Stripe account, which owns it and receives 100% of the amount (no commission retained). Funds remain in the Maker's Stripe balance until 5 days after the workshop end date, a window that allows handling of disputes, no-shows and Stripe chargebacks; at the end Handsome releases the payout to the Maker's account.
2-bis. Booking guarantee and invoicing
Since the Maker is the party selling the workshop and owns the income, the Booking guarantee is collected by the Maker together with the deposit and returned to Handsome at the end of the month. Handsome issues the Maker a monthly invoice for the total guarantees accrued on bookings relating to events actually held (excluding cancelled or refunded events), debited via a SEPA Direct Debit mandate the Maker authorises on the platform.
Tax obligations:
- the Maker issues the tax document (receipt or invoice) to the Customer for the full workshop price (online deposit + balance collected on site). The tax event occurs at workshop delivery date;
- Handsome issues a monthly invoice to the Maker for the Booking guarantee (platform service), with regular VAT handling;
- Handsome does not issue any tax document to the Customer for the deposit nor the workshop balance.
All tax, social-security and administrative obligations connected to the business (VAT number in flat-rate or ordinary regime, or occasional self-employment, INPS, workshop authorisations, food safety where applicable) remain the Maker's sole responsibility.
A Maker operating as occasional self-employment (without a VAT number) may publish at most 5 workshops per calendar year through the platform; publishing more requires opening a VAT number. Handsome events with apprentices are excluded from this limit.
2-ter. Maker Pro subscription (optional)
Maker Pro is an optional paid subscription for Makers that unlocks additional tools and visibility. It does not change the zero-commission model described above.
Two plans are available:
- Monthly: €9.90/month, with the first month free; auto-renews monthly until cancelled;
- Annual: €95/year, with a single upfront payment covering the full 12-month period. The discount vs. monthly is already included in the price and is not a separate trial: there is no second charge, and the next charge is the €95 renewal after 12 months, unless cancelled. Reduced pricing may apply to Makers under partner agreements.
Charged via the Maker's authorised SEPA mandate; Handsome issues a proper invoice for each charge.
Founder call (Annual plan only). The Annual plan includes one 1-hour individual call with Handsome's founder, focused on the Maker's growth and planning, with an indicative value of €95 (equal to the full annual subscription), included once per subscription year and bookable from the reserved area within available slots.
Cancellation. The Maker may cancel anytime from the reserved area; it takes effect at the end of the paid period (the subscription stays active until then and does not renew), with no pro-rata refund for unused periods.
Annual plan refund. As the Maker acts as a VAT-registered professional (B2B), the 14-day consumer withdrawal right does not apply by law. As a commercial goodwill guarantee, Handsome offers a full refund within 14 days of activating the Annual plan provided the founder call has not been booked or used. After 14 days, or once the call is booked/used, the subscription is non-refundable; any refund is issued via credit note.
3. Gift cards
Gift cards are offered by individual Makers and can be redeemed only on the workshops of the issuing Maker. They are valid 12 months from the purchase date. They work as a stored-value wallet: if the value exceeds the workshop price, the remaining credit stays available for later use with the same Maker until expiry; if it is lower, the Customer pays the difference as balance. Once used (even partially), the residual credit is non-refundable. Unredeemed gift cards expire after 12 months; the residual value is not refundable nor convertible in cash, as permitted by Italian law (D.lgs. 21/2014). The expiration date is shown at checkout and in the confirmation email.
Collection and invoicing. The gift card amount is collected directly by the issuing Maker (via Stripe Connect, Direct Charge): the Maker receives 100% and is the seller. Handsome does not collect or retain any amount on the gift card. The Maker issues the tax document to the Customer for the gift card, under its own tax regime, and remains solely responsible for the related tax obligations. At redemption — when the gift card becomes a confirmed booking — the Booking guarantee of €0.50 applies as for any booking. No cash payout of the gift card credit is provided.
4. Cancellations and refunds
- Customers can cancel up to 48 hours before the workshop and receive a full refund of the amount paid at checkout (deposit + Booking guarantee included).
- Within 48 hours of the workshop start the amount paid is non-refundable, except documented force majeure events.
- If the Maker cancels or fails to deliver the workshop, the Customer receives a full refund within 48 hours of report, to the original payment method.
- Atomic pre-event refund. Because the funds are held in the Maker's Stripe balance until T+5 post-event (see Section 2), pre-event refunds are processed from that held balance: Handsome disburses nothing of its own.
4-bis. Custom workshops
For "custom" workshops (private requests organised ad hoc between Customer and Maker), the payment model is:
- the price shown to the Customer is all-inclusive: no commission, surcharge or extra cost is added at payment;
- at checkout the Customer pays Handsome a deposit equal to the fee for the event organisation and booking service provided by Handsome (finding and selecting the Maker, collecting and comparing proposals, managing the date, the payment and customer support);
- the balance is due directly to the Maker on the workshop day (cash, the Maker's POS, or bank transfer agreed in advance) and equals the full fee for the Maker's service: Handsome withholds no share of the Maker's compensation;
- the Maker issues a tax document to the Customer for its own service, under its own tax regime and normally upon collection; Handsome issues the Customer the tax document for its organisation and booking service;
- the deposit is fully refunded if the Customer cancels up to 48 hoursbefore the workshop starts (Refund Guarantee); it is non-refundable for cancellations within 48 hours of the start, except documented force majeure; it is always fully refunded if the Maker cancels or the request is never confirmed.
5. Maker responsibilities
The Maker is solely responsible for workshop delivery, quality of materials, safety of participants and compliance with applicable health and safety regulations. Handsome is not a party to the workshop contract and is not liable for damages, injuries or breaches by the Maker, without prejudice to the Customer's right to claim a refund under Section 4.
5-bis. Intellectual Property and infringement reports (IP Policy)
Makers agree not to publish any content (workshop titles, descriptions, images, videos, reproduced artifacts) that infringes third-party intellectual property rights, including registered trademarks, copyright-protected works, registered designs, and protected geographical indications (PDO, PGI, TSG).
Handsome operates a structured reporting channel compliant with Article 16 of EU Regulation 2022/2065 (Digital Services Act). Rightholders may report alleged infringements via the IP infringement report page or by email to info@handsomemakers.com. Standard process:
- Acknowledgment to the reporting party within 24 business hours;
- Review of the report and the contested content within 48 business hours;
- If infringement is substantiated: immediate suspension of the contested content and written notice to the Maker with right of counter-notification within 10 business days;
- Repeat-offender policy: 3 substantiated infringements result in permanent removal of the Maker from the platform;
- All decisions are logged in the compliance database with reasoning, timestamp, and admin reference.
Knowingly false or bad-faith reports may result in legal liability for the reporting party.
6. Accounts & data
Registration is required to book a workshop or publish an offer as a Maker. Users guarantee the accuracy of the information provided and are responsible for credentials safekeeping. Personal data processing is governed by our Privacy Policy.
6-bis. Customer–Maker communication (mediated in-app chat)
After a booking is confirmed, Customer and Maker may communicate exclusively through the in-app chat provided by Handsome. The chat is the official channel for practical workshop questions (time, address, materials, allergies/dietary restrictions, accessibility).
Sharing personal email addresses, phone numbers, social accounts (Instagram, Facebook) or messaging handles (WhatsApp, Telegram), as well as external domain links, is forbidden — and technically blocked — except for information strictly necessary to deliver the workshop (e.g. the workshop address communicated by the Maker after booking). Repeated violations may result in warnings, temporary suspension, or, in serious cases, permanent account removal.
Messages exchanged are retained for customer-support, security, fraud-prevention and dispute-management purposes, within the limits and modalities set out in our Privacy Policy. Handsome does not actively monitor conversation content except in the context of reports or automated moderation procedures.
Contact window around the event. By way of exception to the above, solely within the 24 hours before the event and up to a few hours after, Customer and Maker may view each other's phone number for the sole purpose of logistical coordination (arrival time, how to reach the venue, delays, contingencies). This visibility is automatic and temporary, closes by itself at the end of the window, and does not entail storing the number in the chat. The Maker undertakes to use the Customer's contact only for event logistics, not for marketing purposes and without disclosing it to third parties.
6-ter. Uploaded content and licence
The Maker (and anyone uploading content) remains the owner of the photos, images, videos and texts uploaded to the platform. By uploading them, they grant Handsome a non-exclusive, royalty-free, worldwide licence for the duration of the rights to use, reproduce, publish, reformat and display such content for the operation and promotion of the Service and of the Maker's activity, on the Handsome website and on social and marketing channels (for example: Instagram, Facebook, YouTube, TikTok, newsletters, online advertising campaigns).
The Maker warrants that they hold the rights to the uploaded content (or have obtained the necessary authorisations, including releases from any depicted persons) and that it does not infringe third-party rights. The licence allows Handsome to keep and display content already published even after account closure, limited to promotional materials already produced and distributed; upon the Maker's written request, Handsome will cease using the content for new promotional initiatives. Where possible, Handsome credits the workshop/Maker as author.
6-quater. Ranking of results
Workshops and Makers shown in catalogue and search pages are ranked mainly by: geographic proximity to the city set by the user, profile completeness and quality, ratings received and relevance to the applied filters. To ensure fair visibility, items of equal relevance may be shown in rotation.
Some placements may be promoted, i.e. influenced by a fee paid by the Maker to give greater visibility to their profile or workshops in their area. Such promotions still respect geographic relevance to the user. The presence of promoted placements is disclosed transparently in catalogue pages, in compliance with art. 22-bis of the Italian Consumer Code and Regulation (EU) 2019/1150.
7. Limitation of liability
To the extent permitted by law, Handsome's aggregate liability towards the user shall not exceed the Booking guarantee paid for the specific transaction. Handsome is not liable for indirect damages, loss of profit, loss of data or loss of business opportunities.
8. Changes to these Terms
Handsome may amend these Terms at any time. Material changes will be notified to registered users by email with at least 15 days' notice. Minor changes will be communicated by updating this page.
9. Governing law & jurisdiction
These Terms are governed by Italian law. For disputes with consumers, the court of the consumer's residence applies (Italian Consumer Code, art. 66-bis). For disputes with non-consumer users, the Court of Milan has exclusive jurisdiction.
